The environment of the Code has selective properties for the accumulation of BGKP (bacteria of the colon). Selectivity is due to the presence of sulfanol (alkylaryl sulfonate). This component exhibits inhibitory effects on many microorganisms, but does not affect the development of BGKP. In addition, the growth of bacteria capable of fermentation of lactose is accompanied by a change in the color of the medium from green to yellow.
When preparing the medium, it should be taken into account that sulfanol provokes foaming, in particular when boiling.
Purpose: Detection of bacteria in the E. coli group
Principle of action: In the environment contains only one carbohydrate - lactose. Bacteria that do not ferment lactose develop in the environment without changing the color from green to yellow. As a selective agent, sulfanol acts.
