Citrate agar has the carbon source in the form of citrate. By the formation of alkaline waste products, phenol red allows detecting fermentation of citrate. In contrast to the "hungry" mineral Simmons, Christensen includes a certain amount of glucose, yeast extract and cysteine. The main source of carbon is still citrate and redness of the environment evidence of its fermentation.
Purpose: Differentiation of enterobacteria on the ability to ferment citrate.
Principle of action: In the process of fermentation of citrate, alkaline products are formed that change the color of the indicator and the medium becomes red.
Storage
Agar microbiological - 11,5 g / l,
sodium chloride - 4.5 g / l,
